Kirawira Serena Camp

Kirawira Serena Camp is a luxury tented safari camp in the Serengeti. Escape to the Africa of legend and myth with endless plains surrounding our luxury tented safari camp in the Serengeti.

Styled to replicate the elegant hunting camps of legendary hunters such as Denys Finch Hatton and Baron Bror Blixen, Kirawira Serena Camp welcomes you to a destination where unforgettable safari adventures are complemented by crisp, professional services and five-star amenities.

As the finest and most exclusive of the Serena Group’s safari venues, we offer an experience beyond compare surrounded by the majesty of Serengeti National Park’s famous Western Corridor.

To arrive here is to be transported back to the safari camps of the early 1900s. Arranged in classically Edwardian style, Kirawira Serena Camp features 25 beautifully appointed luxury tents with spectacular views of the plains.

It also includes elegant dining tents featuring Edwardian-styled dining furniture and staff attired in the classical Colonial ‘mess’ uniform of white Swahili robes.

In addition, there’s a central meeting tent evocatively furnished with a tasteful selection of chintz-covered chaise lounges, Persian rugs, antique escritoire, wind-up phonograms and leather-bound traveling cases.

Embark on action-packed game drives to see the Serengeti’s “Big Five” (elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino).

Witness the “Greatest Wildlife Show on Earth,” the annual migration of over one million wildebeest, or view crocodiles in the Grumeti Reserve. Partake in Swahili lessons or a cooking class or indulge yourself with a massage.

Toast the end of another glorious day with sun downer cocktails and canapés in the bush. Then repair to the dining tent for a gourmet meal paired with world-class wines.

Bush Dinner

The Kirawira bush dinner takes place at a scenic location on the plains at sunset. Beginning with sun downers around the campfire, guests are entertained with a Maasai dance and song while their five-course dinner is prepared on the BBQ.

  • Bush breakfast

One of the classic safari highlights, the bush breakfast is an experience not to be missed. Typically, guests are awakened by a very early morning cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate with a muffin. They then set off on a game drive, which is timed to offer the very best chance of spotting “The Big Five.”

Setting off ahead of the guests, our hospitality team will arrive at the chosen breakfast spot in time to set up a table, chairs, and ‘bush kitchen.’ Upon arrival, the guests are usually met with a glass of chilled sparkling wine and fresh-pressed orange juice.

They can then sit down to enjoy a uniquely scenic, full English breakfast. Meanwhile, our chef will cook their choice of sausage, bacon, eggs, tomatoes and toast. After breakfast, there’s another game drive back to the lodge.

  • Sun downer

An essential part of traditional safari life, the concept of having drinks whilst watching the sun go down dates back to the time of the great safaris of the 1920s, all of which featured the serving of elegant ‘bush’ cocktails against the unforgettable backdrop of the African sunset.

Timed to commence as the sun starts its descent, which on the Equator is usually around 6:00 p.m., our sun downer begins with a gentle drive to a scenic spot.

This is where chairs, lamps, a campfire and a bush bar with cocktail snacks and hot and cold canapés. Musical entertainment can also be provided-up on requests in advance.

  • Bush dinner

Nothing is quite so essentially as the traditional ‘bush dinner,’ especially when it’s enlivened by the presence by a group of scarlet-clad Maasai warriors.

The Kirawira bush dinner takes place at a scenic location on the plains. Timed to coincide with the setting of the sun, which on the Equator is around 6:00 p.m, the bush dinner will commence with a short game drive.

Arriving at the chosen location with fabulous views across the plains, our guests will find that a table and chairs have already been set up and that a campfire, lanterns and a bush kitchen await them.

Beginning with sun downers around the campfire, we are proud to entertain our guests with a Maasai dance and song while their five-course dinner is prepared on the blazing charcoal BBQ.

The selection of meat, fish and poultry will be supplemented by vegetarian choices, salads, fruit and desserts from the main camp and a full safari bar will be provided

  • Balloon Safari and Bush Breakfast

A balloon safari allows you to drift in silence above the splendor of the plains. You can also dip down to visit the hippo pools of the Grumeti River and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the wildlife theater as it is enacted below.

Awakened by an early-morning cup of tea (around 5:30 a.m.), you will be driven to the balloon take-off point, where you will meet your fully qualified balloon pilot and watch as the team inflates the vast rainbow-colored balloon.

As dawn breaks, the balloon slowly rights itself and the guests are helped into the wicker basket (a typical balloon carries around eight passengers and is equipped with seats and safety belts). The sandbags are cast off and the balloon rises majestically into the cool morning air.

Driven by the wind and guided by jets of hot air from the gas-burners, which allow it to rise or fall according to the pilot’s direction, the balloon will fly for a period of around 45 minutes trailed by a team of ground vehicles.

Eventually, it descends to a gentle controlled-landing on the plains. To celebrate, the ground crew offer the guests a glass of chilled champagne while the pilot prepares their personal ‘flight certificates.

Later, everyone sits down to a full English breakfast, which is traditionally cooked on the burners of the balloon. After breakfast, guests can enjoy a leisurely game
